Gatsby Necklace

Description

The Gatsby Necklace commemorates the centenaries of both The Great Gatsby’s publishing and the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, which officially gave Art Deco its name.

The necklace centres on a step-cut emerald surrounded by over 3 carats of emerald- and Asscher-cut diamonds in an Art Deco design, whilst the diamonds interspersed on the chain spell G-A-T-S-B-Y in Morse Code. The central green emerald evokes Fitzgerald’s novel wherein Jay Gatsby looks longing across the water to the emerald green lantern of East Egg, whilst the geometric aesthetic of the diamonds surrounding it recall the clean, linear geometries of the Art Deco movement.

The Allison Quaid story begins in 1921, when William B. and Benjamin Ogush converted the family’s townhouse at 61stand Central Park West into a jewellery workshop at the dawn of the Art Deco age. Art Deco designs featured extensively in the family’s creations throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and it was art deco watch cases for Blancpain, executed in platinum and diamonds, that were one of the Katz and Ogush (as the company was known at the time) namesakes. The Gatsby Pendant refers to this distinguished history a century later, honouring the past in a contemporary jewel that glows with aesthetic meaning and, as always, the world’s finest gemstones.
